I can't believe it took me a week to get around to mentioning this, but I entered Crossing Decembers into the First Chapters writing competition on Gather.com. The link to my entry is here. Rating an entry requires registration for the site, but you can vote (if you're so inclined) for a ranking without having to leave a comment. I've been told that finding the place where you assign the rank is easy to miss: It's the row of stars sandwiched between the end of the chapter and the beginning of the comments. My entry's voting window ends March 29. (Oh, and the paragraph indentation problems? I have no idea. They're not in the original document, so there must've been a wrinkle in the conversion.)
Even if I don't make the second round, this has been fun, and I'm encouraged by the responses I've gotten so far.
